The first in Ukraine sketchbook with an open binding. On the cover is the painting «Blossoming Almond Branches» by one of the most revered world artists Vincent van Gogh.

This painting has a special story. On 31 January 1890, Theo van Gogh wrote to Vincent about the birth of a son, who was named after his uncle. The great artist immediately set to work on the painting he intended to give to his younger brother.

The choice of the painting’s subject is determined by Vincent’s symbolic idea to depict the beginning of a new life. Almond branches begin to bloom very early and are harbingers of spring, which is why the choice fell on them. Blossoming trees appear in the artist’s works more than once; however, the composition «Blossoming Almond Branches» is unusual for Van Gogh’s oeuvre. Noteworthy features include a limited set of colors and the absence of yellow. In the sharp outlines and the placement of the branches, you can clearly see the influence of Japanese painting, which Van Gogh encountered in Paris.

In a letter to his brother, Van Gogh wrote that it was his first work—one he truly is proud of.
