Black has always had a special role in the world of visual arts. Working within the concept of Suprematism—a movement designed to detach painting from the real world and move it into the plane of colors and forms—Kazimir Malevich defined two minimal possible conditions: the form of a square and a color that contains nothing—black. Many ask: “What exactly is art?” The idea of Malevich and other Suprematists of that time was that a painting does not necessarily have to contain and imitate real objects and landscapes. If you gradually simplify the laws of reality, sooner or later everything turns into the category of primitive shapes and colors. In the case of this sketchbook, black and the rectangular shape are a direct reference to the 1915 avant-garde movement.
80 cream unlined pages are perfect for liners, pencils, and pens. Sketchbooks open perfectly to 180 degrees and do not close on their own thanks to the open binding.
