An interesting fact – Van Gogh created “A Wheat field with Cypresses” at the end of the 19th century when he was in a psychiatric hospital in the French town of Saint-Remy for almost a year. Van Gogh, tired of the healing “soothing art”, began to paint the Mediterranean landscapes around him. Distorting reality in his usual style, Van Gogh endowed the picture with those emotions that tormented his soul: sadness and loneliness. It was not by chance that cypresses were chosen by him as the central object of the painting since in the Mediterranean, these trees have long been a sign of sadness and grief.
