Description
Manuscript sketchbook «Bruegel 1559» from the «Scape» series
First in Ukraine sketchbook with an open binding. The cover features the painting «Battle of Carnival and Lent» by the well-known Dutch artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder, who founded the Bruegel dynasty of artists.
Originally the artist’s surname was written as Brueghel (this spelling was retained by his children), however since 1559 he has started signing his paintings «Bruegel».
Born in the Dutch city of Breda, Pieter received his creative skills and his first recognition as an artist in Belgium. And in the city of Antwerp, he began studying the artistic craft in the workshop of the court artist of Emperor Charles V.
«Battle of Carnival and Lent», created in the artist’s classic style, depicts a celebration held in Medieval France and Holland on the last day of the carnival before the Great Lent, and consisting in a playful battle between the retinue of the Carnival and the supporters of Lent. Bruegel draws a scene of life in the human anthill. A scene familiar to his eye since childhood. Any big city looks like an anthill, and only upon closer inspection does it turn out to be a space full of life and events. So in Bruegel’s painting we see a kind of organism, a living crowd. Everyone here is busy with their own thing: someone sleeps, someone bakes waffles, someone plays dice, washes windows, dances, begs for alms, gets married, drinks, sprinkles passers-by with ash, sings, cheats. This living crowd, in which a person, as in other works by Bruegel, and a landscape detail, are both meaningful units of a certain action. The artist with scrupulous care draws the characters like a miniature artist, detailing little things that at first the eye doesn’t even catch.
80 cream unlined pages are perfect for liners, pencils, and pens. Sketchbooks open out perfectly flat to 180 degrees and don’t close on their own thanks to the open binding. High-quality stitching and pasting make it possible to withstand even extreme loads, and the protective cover coating will extend your sketchbook’s service life. The set includes an insert with grid and line paper for convenient writing and plotting graphs, tables, precise drawings, etc.
Manuscript sketchbooks serve both as a wonderful working tool for artists, designers, programmers, and managers, and as a fashionable accessory that can inspire creative feats.
