The first in Ukraine sketchbook with an open binding. On the cover is the still life «Flowers in a Vase with Crown Imperial and Apple Blossom at the Top and a Statue of Flora» by the Dutch artist Jan van Huysum.

To be the best botanical illustrator and artist. This was the goal van Huysum pursued throughout his life. Visiting the city of Haarlem many times—once the largest botanical center in the Netherlands—Jan studied in detail the structure and principles that nature has embedded in plants and flowers. He did it for one purpose only: to draw still lifes that had never existed in real life. A highlighted image of the «impossible bouquet».

Jan painted his works for years, and the flowers, being an extremely short-lived model, would not have allowed him to work that long. That is why van Huysum, just like modern 3D artists and animators, studied the structure in detail and visualized the future works in his mind.

In addition, Jan developed production technologies for paints that gave such a recognizable and unique author’s signature. Without wanting to share his know-how, van Huysum did not take students. The only one who deserved the honor of learning his secrets was his daughter Maria, who later also became an artist.
